*These classes require that each child be accompanied by a caregiver.  Twins and “Irish Twins” may come with one caregiver.  Classes specifically marked “w/ sibling” are designed for children in that age group and customized to accommodate siblings.  In such cases one caregiver may attend with two children.  Children without a sibling may still enroll in these classes.

Below are our core class offerings:

> For the littlest Spanish learners Baby Barcelona™ (12-24 months) and Olé & Play™ (2-3 years)  classes allow parents and their little ones to learn the basic elements of the Spanish language such as the alphabet, numbers, seasons, animals, colors, and other pre-school vocabulary in an immersion environment assuring that learning is comprehensive and is not taught as isolated vocabulary. Classes are conducted in an interactive, circle time format using music and singing to teach beginning Spanish communication and comprehension. Children and parents will learn with puppets, instruments and toys through an exploration of themes allowing children to develop knowledge skills out of focused communication and play.  We will offer a 90 minute Olé & Play class which further challenges young learners in an additional 30 minutes of games and pre-literacy skill building.
> At the next level, Castile Cavaliers™ (3-4 years) classes focus on basic comprehension, communication and sound acquisition skills. In addition, children start to learn popular Spanish rhymes, songs, poetry and stories, building a cultural context for their language learning. They also have the opportunity to dress up as flamenco dancers, bullfighters, princesses, knights and painters from the Spanish speaking world.
> For children of school-age years, classes include: Aragon Adventurers™ (5-6 years) and Madrid Musketeers™ (7-9 years). Linguistic and cultural learning is conducted in a fun and engaging format.  Classes will begin with a lesson which is centered around learning about a Spanish or Latin American artist, literary character, historical lesson or genre of music. One day children may embark on an adventure discovering the New World, emulating the trials and tribulations of Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand of Spain and Christopher Columbus. Or they may recite and act out the poems of Colombian poet, Rafael Pombo or the Nicaraguan poet Rúben Darío. They might take a turn at being Don Quijote, Sancho Panza or Dulcinea from Miguel de Cervantes seminal work, “Don Quijote de la Mancha”, or they might paint a mural in the vibrant colors of Diego Rivera’s paintings. Or they might try to learn a flamenco dance, make a papel picado craft for “el Diá de los Muertos” or sing villancicos (Christmas carols) in Spanish. In all Castile Cavaliers, Aragon Adventurers and Madrid Musketeers classes children will receive homework assignments (non-mandatory) to underscore themes and vocabulary and provide practice with writing and reading in Spanish. We will be offering Madrid Musketeers I and II at the same time (teachers will place children accordingly) combining children for certain activities and conducting break out sessions addressing grammar and reading needs of different levels of students.  Madrid Musketeers II is especially suited for children who have already taken Madrid Musketeers I or who have a solid foundation of Spanish, but are not yet bilingual.  The class is longer and focuses more intensely on grammar and writing.
>> Pamplona Players™ (7-10 years). This class is a dynamic and and wonderful way for children to deepen their knowledge of Spanish while studying classical Spanish theatre. Children will study works by authors and playwrights such as author Miguel de Cervantes (widely considered the Shakespeare of the Spanish-speaking world), illustrious playwright Lope de Vega and/or writer and poet Federico García Lorca.  In this Spanish immersion classical theatre class, students will learn their Spanish basics by reading and role-playing from some of the greatest works of literature, theatre and poetry from the Spanish-language cannon. Role-playing is one of the most effective ways for children to absorb a foreign language and children will have fun learning Spanish through acting and dress up, directing and set design. Small classes sizes and a 1:4 teacher student ratio ensures a customized experience for both bilingual and non-bilingual children. Prior knowledge of Spanish is required.  In addition, we provide customized classes for groups of 3-4 students of all ages as well as one-on-one private tutoring. We will work with you and our teaching staff to set objectives for these classes. These customized classes do not appear on our registration form, so please call us at (202) 364-4999 or email us at info@isabellaandferdinand.comif you are interested in this option. Pricing is as follows:(1) 1:1 for Spanish $65 per 45 minutes (add an additional $10 for in-home tutoring)(2) 1:3 maximum of 3 children for Spanish $120 per 45 minutes(3) 1:4 maximum of 4 children $160 per 45 minutes,*Customize class with music – add $30
